Illinois snow sculpting competition 2008
When the weather outside is frightful, the Rockford area is delightful! That's because Rockford is home to the annual Illinois Snow Sculpting Competition. Nearly 30 teams from around the state work on 5-ton blocks of compacted snow to create huge works of frozen art.
Visitors may view the event by walking or driving the one-mile loop in historic Sinnissippi Park. The Illinois Snow Sculpting Competition starts on a Wednesday morning, and ends whenever the sculptures become unsafe or unsightly.
Teams consist of three individuals, all of whom must be Illinois residents and at least 18 years of age. However, in the high school division, teams are determined by their schools, and consist of four students each. |
